Moosburger Horsehair Pillows – Shipping to Canada
We ship Moosburger horsehair pillows from Austria to Canadian customers regularly. The product is the same as for our US customers — the same pillows, same Austrian manufacture, same processing. What differs is the import paperwork, and Canada is in some respects the simpler of the two countries to ship to.
The product
Everything about the material, the manufacture in Vorarlberg, the models we carry, and what each pillow is designed for is described on our main page for North American customers. The information is identical for Canadian buyers — we do not change the product for any market. The processing of the horsehair (washed at 90 °C, steam-treated, nothing else added) and the unbleached organic cotton cover sewn in Austria are the same regardless of where the pillow is shipped.
Customs and taxes
Canada and the European Union have a free trade agreement (CETA) that has been in force since 2017. Under CETA, pillows made in the EU enter Canada at zero customs duty. We provide the required origin declaration on the commercial invoice, and CBSA processes the shipment without duty assessment.
Provincial and federal sales taxes (GST/HST, and in some provinces additional PST or QST) still apply on imports — this is true for any goods entering Canada, regardless of origin. We calculate the correct rate for your province in advance and prepay it on your behalf, so there are no charges at delivery and no paperwork on your side. The total quoted in your offer is the total you pay.
Rates by province for reference:
- Ontario: 13 % HST
- New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, PEI: 15 % HST
- Alberta, Yukon, NWT, Nunavut: 5 % GST only
- British Columbia: 5 % GST + 7 % PST
- Manitoba: 5 % GST + 7 % PST
- Saskatchewan: 5 % GST + 6 % PST
- Quebec: 5 % GST + 9.975 % QST
Shipping
We ship from our workshop in Cologne, Germany, via DHL. The parcel is handed to Canada Post for the final mile to your address. Realistic transit time is two to three weeks door to door, fully tracked from pickup in Cologne to delivery at your door.
Payment is by PayPal. You pay in Canadian dollars; PayPal handles the conversion to euros on our side automatically. Ordering works as follows: write to us with the model and quantity you want, we send you a written offer with the total Canadian-dollar price including all taxes and shipping, and you pay that amount via PayPal once you confirm. There is no automated shop checkout for international orders — every order is handled personally.
